Dr. Kalam praises Petronet for outstanding achievements, outlines new direction

Petronet LNG Limited celebrated its 14th Foundation Day with great fervor by organizing the 1st Petronet Foundation Day Lecture by Bharat Ratna Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Former President of India. The event was held at NDMC Convention Centre, Parliament Street, New Delhi and was attended by senior officials from various Ministries, Embassies, major Oil & Gas companies from the Public & Private Sector, LNG exporting companies, Financial Institutions, LNG Terminal construction companies along with Petronet employees and their family members.


The event got off to an auspicious beginning at 1730 hours with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Bharat Ratna Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam alongside Sh. S. Sundareshan, Chairman, Petronet LNG & Secretary (Petroleum & Natural Gas), Govt. of India and Dr. A. K. Balyan, MD & CEO, Petronet LNG Ltd.

Dr. A. K. Balyan, MD & CEO, Petronet LNG Ltd., welcomed all distinguished guests and made special reference to the outstanding performance of the company from the time of arrive of first cargo in 2004 to date when PLL regassified 683rd cargo at Dahej Terminal and the 136th cargo of the year – the highest in any year.



Today, Petronet is leading player in RLNG business in the country. Commission of its 2nd Terminal at Kochi will further strengthen its leadership position in India.

“We are a fairly young company since we really started to grow since 2005. Most of our workforce has only been with us for a couple of years and we are excited and enthusiastic about what we do and positive about our future” an upbeat Dr Balyan informed the gathering.


Sh. S. Sundareshan, Chairman, Petronet and Secretary (Petroleum & Natural Gas), Govt. of India lauded the commendable effort of Petronet in transforming the Natural Gas business in the country. The CMDs of the promoting companies’ viz. Mr. A K Hazarika, Mr. R S Butola, Mr. B C Tripathi and Mr. R K Singh complimented Petronet’s effort and assured their long term support for growth in domestic and international opportunities.



The Charge d’Affaires, Qatar and High Commissioner of Australia to India also appreciated the achievements made by Petronet and assured their continued support.

While delivering the Foundation Day Lecture Dr APJ Abdul Kalam complimented the wonderful work in this new technology area by Petronet and outlined the new challenges which Petronet should be ready to reckon with in the near future.
